Tuscany is the place most people imagine when thinking of rural Italy and it is an area that will not disappoint on any level. Flying to Pisa, which you can do from many regional airports, gives easy access to the open roads and hilltop towns that are the very essence of Tuscany. Sumptuous hotels, villas and even self catering apartments in converted farmhouses allow you to surround yourself in quintessential Tuscany. If exploring great hilltop towns and visiting vineyards are not enough I would recommend a day here and there taking full advantage of the superb rail system to whisk you into the heart of the great tourist attractions in both Florence and Sienna. The car will give you great freedom in this region but with some clever planning we can cut out the car and do so much of the area by train.

A great destination for amazing views, food and people, I try return to Italy at least once a year and my top tip would be to eat where the locals eat in the small villages taverns. I highly recommend Volterra, which is a beautiful, small town in Tuscany. Give me a call and I can help you discover more hidden gems.

I love Italy as it is so diverse. From the stunning lakes and mountains in the north, vibrant cities like Rome,Venice and Florence, the beautiful countryside of Tuscany and the coastal regions of the Amalfi Coast and the islands of Sardinia and Sicily, there really is something for everybody. I have to admit the fabulous food keeps me returning to this lovely country.

I challenge anyone to go to Italy and not fall in love with it. Having visited Florence and Rome during a twin-centre holiday this year, I’ll happily admit I am smitten. Throughout Italy, history, art and architecture are in abundance and, of course, the world-famous cuisine is second to none. Every region offers something different and, given its fantastic rail network, combining the previously mentioned cities as well as Venice, Milan, Verona and many more with the Lakes such as Como or Garda, the rolling Tuscan countryside or the colourful coastlines such as Amalfi is a great way to see more of this beautiful country.

Sicily is far bigger than I had ever realised, but it is also more beautiful, historical and charming than I could ever have imagined.

I have only visited Venice but long to discover other examples of Italy’s diversity. Venice is an experience like no other. The city is surreal, surrounded by the waters of the Venetian lagoon and without the confines ofb a modern day city. Give me a call to help you plan a romantic short break.

The first question is always ‘did you see George?’ and unfortunately the answer is no. But I was fortunate to view Mr Clooney’s beautiful home from my boat on the lake. I was also lucky enough to stay in and visit some of the most beautiful hotels and would recommend a lake view room wherever possible. Bellagio is a small and charming village with narrow cobbled stairways full of shops and other delights along the lake’s shore. As ferry transportation is so easily accessible, the Lakes are a great place to explore independently.
