Courtesy of Classic Collection Holidays, I was lucky enough to spend 3 days on the popular island of Tenerife and the lesser known island of La Gomera. Tenerife is a great place to find sun at all times of the year and if you’re looking for a luxury stay then Classic Collection have an amazing choice of 5* Hotels and Villas to choose from.
Costa Adeje
A short 4-hour flight from the UK and a mere 25-minute transfer will take you to the upmarket resort of Costa Adeje which has a choice of exclusive hotels, golf courses and designer shopping. We spent 2 nights in the beautiful Bahia Del Duque Hotel and also got to visit the Villa Cortes, Vincci Plantation and the Ritz Carlton Abama, all offering pure luxury in a unique way.
Northern Tenerife
Day 2 we headed north through some of Tenerife’s vineyards until we reached Mount Teide, stopping for some great photo opportunities. Puerta de la Cruz is the North’s holiday resort and a real contrast from the South; the town itself has a more traditional feel and overall it felt much more lush and green. Here, we visited a range of hotels from the small and friendly 3* Monopol Hotel right in the city centre to the luxurious 5* Botanico which is home to one of the best spas on the island.
La Gomera
Our last day took us on the ferry from Los Cristianos to San Sebastián on the beautiful island of La Gomera, this took just 45 minutes. Here, we stopped off at the Hotel Parador, which had magnificent views across the island.
The last night we stayed at the lovely 4* Tecina Gardens, which is a 40 minute, amazing drive across the island to the south. The transfer itself is a great chance to take in the magnificent scenery, you drive 1500 feet through cloud and come out on the South of the island to clear blue skies.
La Gomera would suite walkers, cyclists, golfers and anyone looking for total peace and unspoilt surroundings, a complete contrast to its sister Canary Islands, it's like stepping back in time. I would certainly recommend a sea view room at this hotel as the views are amazing and at certain times of the year you could be lucky enough to view dolphins and whales.
The hotel had an amazing A la Carte restaurant built into the rocks which we were lucky enough to dine in, and it's very own private dining cave for that romantic meal for two.
Summary
Tenerife, both North and South, has something different to offer and for the truly unique Canary Island experience, why not indulge in the beauty of La Gomera. For more information on where best to stay then please do contact us.
