In July I headed to Poole Harbour as one of the lucky hand-picked agents, selected to visit Scenic’s Discovery Yacht.
It was a privilege to view such a unique ship and get a feel for what Scenic can offer our clients when they get on board.
With it’s sleek & sophisticated decor, luxe suites with butler service, state of the art technology including 2 helicopters and a submersible - Scenic really does set the benchmark extremely high for luxury expedition cruising.
To begin the visit in absolutely the right way; we were given a glass of champagne and guided through to the extremely comfortable theatre (think armchair style seats with recline facility) and watched an informative presentation on the destinations that the Scenic Eclipse visits however I could just imagine how good the venue would be for live music and exciting lectures. Taster itineraries are available for anyone wishing to dip their toe in (excuse the pun) however it was their offerings in Antarctica which really resonated with me.
Following a tour of some of the cabin types; the theme of quiet luxury continued with well-thought-out staterooms, that were not only spacious but included fabulous amenities such as Dyson hair equipment, premium toiletries, quality linens and state of the art electricals.
I feel that sometimes hearing that butler service is included can actually put some clients off however this shouldn't be the case.
If you have cruised before, you may have visited a dedicated desk to book your shore excursions, then visited the spa to book a treatment, later you might go to one of the restaurants to book your anniversary dinner, then rinse and repeat on other days throughout your cruise...
All of this can be relayed to your butler who will action on your behalf, giving you more time to enjoy your holiday.
Think less Downton Abbey and more Personal Assistant!
The tour continued through some of the restaurants; all of which were very elegant and offered a beautiful choice of cuisines. The interior design at Koko's Asian Fusion felt like being in 5* Boutique hotel in Kyoto and the menu at Scenic's French offering 'Lumiere' looked particularly special.
It is evident throughout the ship that no matter the department; be it the helicopter pilots, the Spa therapists, the chefs, all teams are highly trained and on hand to guide you through these fascinating destinations and the incredible activities/facilities Scenic provide.
Couple this with the understated but very clear standards in luxury, any cruise with Scenic would definitely make for a trip of a lifetime.
