We were lucky enough to visit the Saga Spirit of Discovery at Portsmouth. While we were boarding the ship we were so impressed when the staff were greeting the clients as if they were old friends. The ship had a boutique hotel feel and holds 987 passages with 505 staff. The moment we stepped on board It felt like understated boutique luxury hotel & had a home-to-home feeling.
We looked around a selection of cabin from the top grand suite, deluxe cabins and single suites they are all very spacious and all cabins have balcony no matter what grade you book. The cabins were very spacious; we loved the attention to detail such as the artwork on the walls, you will see from my photos the newsletter that was on the bed ready for clients to arrive. All cabins include 24 hours room service, complimentary WIFI, tea & coffee facilities and bathrobe and slippers they also had branded water bottle in each cabin. We were very impressed with the fully adapted cabin which can also be connected to another which works very well if you are travelling with a carer or a family member but don't want to share. We both said we would recommend you upgrading to a mid-ship suite with balcony cabin as it's in a prime location as the name suggests! as you get a double balcony which you can enter for either the bedroom or the separate lounge which has a lovely seating area.
The main thing that stood out to us was the outside area of the ship there were so many places to sit and watch the world go by. The terrace offers easy access to Spirit of Discovery’s full-length wraparound promenade. If you walk around the promenade four times you would have walked a mile what a lovely way to get your steps in!! In the centre of the lido deck, you will find the main swimming pool with two jacuzzies. Again, this area had a fantastic number of sunbeds where you can relax & have waiter-served drinks. You can order food from the grill or why not have an ice cream form their self- serve ice cream station.
The Spirit of discovery has an amazing selection of restaurants. We ate at the grand dining room which serves British and International cuisine at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food was fantastic and we really should have walked around the promenade after four courses!
La Vie en Rose at The Club, the new French brasserie which you can reserve your table once you are aboard the ship. Easy to West which also has to be booked on board this restaurant offers an exclusive, dinner-only service every evening. Impeccably presented & bring to the table the full diversity and vibrancy of Eastern cuisine. You also have the gill as mentioned earlier which is more casual, relaxed and sociable culinary experience. And if that isn’t enough, they have Coast to Coast exclusive to 74 guest every evening and is designed to showcase modern seafood cuisine.
