15th November 2016: In early November I was fortunate enough to experience the luxury and refinement of Silversea's stunning ship, Silver Spirit. With a guest-to-crew ratio of nearly one to one, it is hard to pinpoint something that they don't have covered. I am not normally someone who needs making a fuss of, but after experiencing the splendour of Silversea, I find myself convinced that it's the right thing to just let happen once in a while.
Concierge
From the moment I stepped aboard Silver Spirit the attention to service was impeccable, beginning with a simple 'hello and welcome aboard' at the gangway, I felt very much at ease. The friendly concierge onboard can customise your voyage, allowing you to experience personalised planning of excursions and knowledgeable suggestions, to really get the best out of your journey. You'll not only have advice about popular attractions, but also insider recommendations for off the beaten track destinations you may never have considered.
Butler Service
Butler service comes as standard in every suite, so you don't even have to book a high-grade category to receive this special treatment. They will welcome and unpack your bags at the beginning of your cruise and pack for you at the end, as well as almost everything in between from running a bath to arranging dinner reservations.
If, after a busy day of sightseeing ashore, you don't feel like dragging yourself away from your beautifully appointed suite, dinner can be served in your cabin. With crisp white linen tablecloths to dress the table, your meal is brought to you course by course.
The butlers are extremely professional and very attentive, without being intrusive. Keeping your suite immaculate at all times, providing a nightly turn down service, and even the replenishment of the bar and bathroom amenities (Bvlgari no less) happens as if by magic.
Dining Staff
On board, meal times are very much a social affair, with attentive table staff, trained by Leading Hotels of the World. They detailed the menu and the knowledgeable sommelier even recommended a complimenting wine for our meal. From bartenders and chefs to restaurant managers and waiters, you'll receive genuine smiles and personal service, whether it’s remembering your favourite drink or special dietary requirements, making you feel like a favoured guest.
Helicopter Transfer
If you were looking for a little extra luxury, I’d definitely consider the helicopter transfer to Monte Carlo. I've taken a few transfer journeys on my travels, but this one was the icing on the cake! Passports at the ready, the extremely professional staff checked us in and lead us through a quick security check, then we were whisked away in smart vehicles to our waiting pilot. In no time at all and in perfectly sunny weather, we soared above the azure seas to the helipad in Monte Carlo. I would certainly recommend this over a road transfer any day, as it was pretty special and everyone needs to feel like a film star occasionally.
