5th October 2016: I’ve just returned from a Scenic River Cruise on the River Rhone, and what a wonderful experience it was. Sailing on board the Scenic Sapphire, I enjoyed all the luxuries you would usually expect from a 5-star river cruise, but with Scenic, it was taken to a whole new level. With state of the art facilities, personal service and all-inclusive luxury, this really was travelling in style.
Suites
Scenic Sapphire has just 78 suites, all exclusively designed with 5-star comfort in mind. With plenty of space, innovative technology, lavish bathrooms and all the flourishes of a floating luxury hotel, it was the perfect place to simply relax and unwind.
My suite was located on the lower deck, and was comfortable with a double bed, good wardrobe facilities, shower room, with hand basin and toilet, plus a mini bar, which was restocked daily. The huge television could be used for the Internet and with complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the vessel; it’s easy to keep in touch with family during the trip. Scenic also provides a pillow menu, fleecy bathrobes and comfy slippers, as well as a dedicated butler to call on, which added to the VIP feeling.
Public Areas
Public areas on board afford guests with all the luxury and comfort they could require. With the Panorama Bar and Lounge to watch the ever-changing scenery, Fitness and Wellness Centres for a little pampering, Gift Shop for a spot of retail therapy and of course the Riverview Terrace, Sun Deck and Panorama Deck, to gaze out at the passing landscapes and breathe in the fresh air.
The main reception and lounge area was inviting and comfortable, with an air of elegance throughout, and the low key evening entertainment was enjoyable. I also learnt that the 2017 season brings some exciting new changes to Scenic Sapphire, including the introduction of two new one-bedroom Royal Owner’s Suites, and the Scenic Culinaire, a private cooking area where guests can participate in our new cookery courses.
Staff
From the minute you step on board, everything is taken care of to the highest professional standard. Whether it’s at the reception desk, during your meals or simply around the ship, the staff were attentive and helpful, making you feel like nothing was too much trouble for them.
Each Scenic Spaceship is also appointed with a team of expert butlers, to make sure you receive the very best personal service in your suite, throughout your entire journey. Taking care of everything from complimentary laundering, meals and drinks to your room and of course, turn down service each evening. With such exemplary service and attention to detail, it’s clear to see why Scenic customers have such a memorable experience.
Dining
Dining on board was all you could wish for, with a diverse choice of delicious dishes, there really is something for every taste or nutritional requirement. The main restaurant is the Crystal Dining room, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in an open seating environment. Meals comprised of buffet breakfast, with both hot and cold options, a full buffet lunch with selection of wine, plus an a la carte dinner service, again with wine.
Also available is the speciality restaurant, Portobellos, which offers sumptuous Italian cuisine, and boasts the best vantage point at the front of the ship. Diamond Deck guests and those staying in Junior suites have access to the exclusive Table La Rive, providing a carefully crafted six course menu. There is also the River Café, where you can enjoy drinks and snacks throughout the day, so you’ll never go hungry.
All-Inclusive
Probably the best thing about travelling with Scenic, is their all-inclusive luxury, allowing you to forget your wallet from the moment you step on board. From fine dining and complimentary beverages, to room service and unforgettable excursions, everything was included with no tipping expected and no hidden extras.
Often customers have to spend extra money on port excursions, but Scenic Freechoice provided a daily choice of fascinating excursions and trips to choose from, all at no additional cost to you. Whether you’re looking for a relaxed pace or you want to squeeze in as much as possible, there is so much choice available, allowing you to really get delve into the wealth of cultural highlights, and make the most of every destination.
All in all my experience with Scenic was fantastic. Everything from service, environment and cuisine was just as a 5-star vessel should be and more, so if you feel like indulging in a little luxury, it’s definitely the choice for you.
