Truly Amazing Cruise
We have had a fantastic five days on the Danube with Viking Cruises, on board Viking VE. I have previously been on many Ocean cruises but this was my first experience on the river. It truly was eye-opening, as although I am aware of the key selling points of Viking seeing them put into practice was truly amazing.
From the luxury and elegance of the ship, the location of the docking stations, the outstanding variety and standard of the food, the quality of the tours (including a Viking exclusive) and most importantly the staff.
Viking Staff
The staff were all outstanding from David the cruise director, to the entertainment team and the bar/wait staff to the cleaners. All staff were exceptionally friendly, polite, happy and professional, they would go over and above to make sure that your experience was as good as it possibly could be, nothing was too much trouble.
Most relaxing holiday
It was great to see the day to day running of the ship so that I can give a better understanding of life on board to my customers. I have had the most fantastic and relaxing holiday and look forward to telling all of my customers that they can rest assured that if they travel with Viking they will have the most incredible experience, and there is a reason why they are number one!
Excursions
The charming city of Linz is scenically set along a bend in the Danube river. Austria's third largest city and capital of the state of Upper Austria, Linz was named a European Capital of culture in 2009 and became part of the UNESCO Creative cities network in 2014. A variety of cultural events and festivals are held in Linz throughout the year. Today the city is home to historic buildings, stunning architecture, interesting museums and a wealth of dining and shopping opportunities.
Our Viking included excursion when arriving in the city of Linz was an incredible visit to the beautiful Bohemian town Cesky Krumlov, just over the border in the Czech Republic. Cesky Krumlov is one of the Czech Republic's finest medieval sites. Its Old Town is a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site, a maze of twisting alleys built around the extensive Cesky Krumlov castle which sits high above the town and is even home to its own resident bear.
We took a walking tour featuring the lovely historic centre of the city with its many baroque and Renaissance buildings, dating back hundreds of years. After a saunter through the cobblestone streets we stopped for a traditional Czech meal in one of the many eateries recommended by our guide. Then there was enough time for a spot of shopping to pick up a few treats for loved ones back home and a coffee before returning to the ship. Due to the central docking station Viking hold in Linz we had plenty of time for a stroll around this beautiful city before returning to the ship for our evening meal.
