My first time stepping onboard a river cruise ship was at the CLIA River Cruise Conference which was held in Amsterdam. I was so impressed with every single one, there is definitely a ship that can cater to everyone’s preferences of style. These ships are designed beautifully and the staff onboard really do go above and beyond with service.
One River cruise ship that stood out to me was Avalon Imagery 2, as soon as you step into the reception area the staff greet you with a welcoming smile and offer assistance if needed. The decor was elegant and contemporary which shows the relaxed luxury it offers.
After our initial talk with the cruise director, we were able to freely explore the ship so I made my way to view the cabins. There are 3 cabin types on board these are the Deluxe Stateroom, Panorama Suite and The Royal Suites. All cabins have L’Occitane products so the luxury continues.
The Panorama Suites all have beds that face outwards to the view of a wall to wall, floor to ceiling window that becomes a slide open balcony. I can only imagine the stunning scenery that could be viewed at any point during your sailing from the minute you wake up. Within the Panorama Suite you also have a small sofa, table and chair where you can sit back and relax watching the views go by. One thing that I admired about this suite was the size of the bathroom, the decor and space it was great for the size of the cabin in general.
There are 2 Royal Suites onboard and they are incredible, they are spacious and are sectioned off into the bedroom, sitting area and the bathroom with toilet separate. Some of the nice touches are a selection of treats; on the day we visited they had cookies, nuts and Ferrero Rocher.
Some other features I particularly liked about Avalon was that everyone has access to Free WiFi, everyone is invited to Happy Hour, water refill stations and there is daily afternoon tea!
Club Lounge is an area on the ship where there is 24 hour self service of hot drinks such as premium coffee, lattes, cappuccinos and tea as well as delicious treats throughout the day to help yourself to. If you are looking to burn off those extra delicious treats or keep active whilst away there is a gym located on board with some weights and exercise equipment too.
On the top deck you have shaded areas with sun lounges, tables and chairs and also deck games such as giant chess and draughts. There is a whirlpool also located on the top deck to enjoy a dip on those warmer days cruising along the river.
Many customers like to ask what the food is like on board river cruise ships and from my experience visiting all the ships, the food they offer and dietary needs they cater for is outstanding. On Avalon all meals are delivered in A La Carte style and is clearly labelled with what allergies are in the dishes. During your breakfast you have complimentary sparkling wine and for lunch and dinner you can choose between wine, beer and soft drinks. Whilst you enjoy your meals you can continue watching the scenery pass with panoramic windows in the restaurants.
Whilst onboard Avalon you have your excursions included in your price. You have the option to choose between Classic, Active or Discovery excursions and sightseeing everyday which I personally feel is a lovely touch to make your holiday more personal to your preferences.
I have thoroughly enjoyed experiencing my time at CLIA this year and have expanded my knowledge about River Cruising. If you have any questions or are interested in a River Cruise, I am based in the Chepstow store if you are local where I would be happy to help you or I am available at [email protected].
