22nd November 2016: I have recently returned from what I can only describe as paradise...Bermuda. This has always been one of my dream destinations and it certainly lived up to my expectations and more. With its spectacular beaches, preserved colonial architecture and rich British and maritime heritage, Bermuda packs an impressive array of sights into its 21 miles. With so much to see on the islands, you’ll definitely want to return time and time again
Here are a few of my favourite places to stay in Bermuda:
Fairmont Southampton
I was lucky enough to stay at the fantastic Fairmont Southampton hotel, which is situated on one of the highest points of Bermuda. About 6 miles from Hamilton, it has a beautiful beach club, two golf courses and extensive leisure facilities, as well as an outstanding spa.
The resort hotel has 593 rooms, many with panoramic views of the beautiful 100-acre estate and surrounding area. There are excellent facilities for all ages, including The Explores Camp for children aged 5 to 12. For those who just want to relax on the outstanding pink sand beaches, take the short shuttle bus down to the Beach Club and soak up the sunshine.
Cambridge Beaches
Cambridge Beaches is a premier cottage resort, offering privacy and comfort in its own 30-acre peninsula. With the ocean on two sides and Mangrove Bay on the third, it boasts four lovely private beaches and several sandy coves.
This is an adult only resort, allowing children 13 years and upward only. The 87 cottages all vary in décor, with the lead in room type being the Garden view rooms, while the top Private Pool Ocean View cottages have secluded outdoor areas, panoramic ocean views and a private plunge pool on the terrace. Cambridge Beaches offers a luxurious Ocean Spa, well-equipped fitness centre, three pools and a range of watersports and dining options to choose from.
Grotto Bay
Grotto Bay is the only all-inclusive property in Bermuda, sitting on a sub-tropical estate with 21 acres of grounds on the water's edge in Baileys Bay. This casual property has three beaches, with 201 rooms in low-rise buildings on a gentle hillside setting.
It offers extensive leisure facilities, including the Natura Spa with its own spa cave. The Serenity Cave Experience is unmatched and unrivalled, offering treatments such as massages and facials in the natural setting of an impressive cave, complete with the mesmerising sounds of dripping water. With activities and evening entertainment for the kids, it’s an excellent choice for families.
Rosewood Tucker’s Point
What can I say? Rosewood Tucker’s Point is the ultimate in luxury; even Queen Elizabeth has stayed here. It comprises of 88 luxurious rooms and suites that cascade through the beautiful gardens and all rooms have their own private balcony overlooking the turquoise water of the Castle Harbour. The room types range from Superior Manor House rooms up to the grand Two Bedroom Villa Suites, all of which are decorated with a manor house charm, and all the luxury comforts you could wish for.
You can hire your own private golf buggy to get yourself around the extensive grounds and golf course, as well as a world-class spa, fully equipped fitness centre and tennis centre. The hotel even has its own private beach club, with the largest private beach in Bermuda, plus with its stunning infinity pool and stylish restaurant with terrace overlooking the Atlantic, it’s simply amazing.
My visit to Bermuda was certainly very special and with very friendly people, old atmospheric towns and stunning beaches. It is probably now one of my favourite places in the world and somewhere I will definitely be returning to.
