Lots of experience, one brilliant trip...

debbie intro

After a very early start from Heathrow, my colleagues and I arrived in Vienna, and were met for the short 20 minute transfer to the Hilton Vienna Danube Waterfront hotel, for the CLIA conference. It was interesting listening to all the river cruise companies and guest speakers. The presentation was fun, informative and lovely to see everyone so positive and passionate about their river cruise ships.

Early evening, we sailed the short distance on the AmaViola from the hotel to our docking station. Our luggage waiting for us in our spacious balcony cabin, including bathrobes, slippers and water which seems to be the norm on the majority of river ships. After a quick refresh, we met up for pre-dinner drinks and canapes in the modern lounge, all very relaxed with the friendly crew.

Dinner was sensational and totally exceeded my expectations. Steak, salmon and chicken are always available and you can pick and choose any course, I had all 6 as didn't want to let the team down!! Fabulous wine with dinner included. A walk on the sun deck, taking in the night views of Vienna on both sides was magical before bed.

Day 2

Early start, breakfast from continental to chef making an omelette of your liking. So many choices and the advantage of looking out from the Danube to views over Vienna. Imagine waking up every day and seeing different cities, vineyards and mountains without having to unpack, just sit back, relax and enjoy as I did.

We decided a walk would be beneficial, after breakfast back to the Hilton, where we had the chance to meet and learn more about the various suppliers. Although the ships are amazing, the real hero for me is the destinations with so much to see and do on every itinerary you are spoilt for choice.

Avalon Envision hosted lunch. A wonderful assortment and so many choices, healthy salads, pasta, fish, chicken, difficult but I decided on the noodles and just the right amount of chilli with an ice cream to finish, again wine, beer or soft drink included. The friendly courteous staff made it even more special.

After lunch, along with others, I boarded the coach for the coffee and wine excursion. Passing St Stephens cathedral and the Giant Ferris wheel, it was then a walk to the world-famous Cafe Sluka where a slice of Sacher Torte cake with whipped cream and coffee was waiting. I did think about jogging back to the coach!! A short drive away was the Schlumberger sparkling wine cellar. After a really interesting tour, I couldn't resist a box of Rosé truffles for the team in Bath to enjoy on my return.

Once back, we boarded the NickoVision for our second night. Wonderful modern ship with a relaxing atmosphere and crew. The French balcony cabin was really spacious and made the most of the view. I think we all agreed the Fillet Steak was one of the best. Music and a nightcap was enjoyed in the Vision Bar before retiring to a very comfortable bed.

Day 3

After another amazing buffet breakfast, it was a short walk to the TUI Maya for a presentation. This is an adults-only ship with two restaurants, bars and organized activities and all cabin grades are very comfortable.

Our next visit was on the Scenic Jasper, a truly luxury 5 Star vessel. The suites were spacious as was the whole ship. The salt therapy lounge reminded me of a spa retreat and really excited when told there were complimentary e-bikes for guests to use.

debbieenvision

Last ship was the Avalon Envision which hosted lunch the previous day. We already knew the food was delicious so it was a self-guided tour of the cabins and sundeck before heading back to the airport. A really nice feature was that each bed faces the window so the view is right in front of you. Plenty of space on the sundeck with very comfortable lounge chairs and if time, I would have enjoyed the whirlpool.

I can't believe how much I managed to fit in on this short trip with such fantastic girls.

If you need information on any river cruise, please get in touch as I'm confident there is a ship and itinerary to suit everyone so look forward to hearing from you.
