Having returned from the 2024 CLIA Riverview conference in Amsterdam and one thing I can say from returning is that there is a river cruise for everyone! Myself and many other Miles Morgan Travel Specialists had the opportunity to attend this conference and truly discover what there is available.
The day started with a morning flight to Amsterdam. On arrival in Amsterdam, we were met by our transfers, where we were taken to the lovely venue that the conference was being held at - Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ. We were immediately greeted by the CLIA staff who handed us our lanyards and programmes. After settling in and having lunch, we proceeded to the conference hall where we were able to hear from some fantastic guest speakers and take in what the river cruise industry has to offer.
After the afternoon conference, we were transferred to our first night's accommodation which was onboard one of the luxurious river cruise ships. The evening started with pre-dinner drinks followed by some of the most amazing food I have ever had. The service onboard was marvellous and the food was top-quality.
Day two started with a buffet breakfast and then a trade fair back at the Muziekgebouw. It was incredible talking to all the river cruise trade teams as it gave myself and my colleagues the best opportunity to hear what's out there and I was astonished by what river cruising offers. The room was filled with so much enthusiasm from each team. We finished the day with some ship visits and an evening meal with more incredible food.
Day three, we were able to explore more ships and my favourite was Riviera's Geoffrey Chaucer ship. As soon as I stepped onboard, I was blown away by the interior and how welcoming the crew were. As you walk on, you are immediately greeted and they even had a boutique gift shop with plenty of items to purchase starting from souvenirs to quality handbags. I was impressed by the attention to detail in every part of the ship. Each of the cabins were spacious and I was shocked that they have UK plugs onboard, which is amazing.
I was surprised by how much Riviera had to offer. The observation lounge was decorated beautifully and is perfect to relax in whilst sailing with a nice drink from the bar admiring all the views as you go down the river and if you're like me and love your hot drinks then you'll love that Riviera offer 24 hours self-service tea and coffee!
I am so happy with how much I managed to fit in on this short trip to Amsterdam and I can confidently say that there is a river cruise itinerary for everyone.
