Debbie Sails On Board Ambition

Debbie Cabin

I'm excited to share my experience of my 3- day cruise from Liverpool to Bristol.

Day 1

I decided to book the coach available through Ambassador, leaving Bristol Royal Portbury mid-morning to Liverpool. A comfortable journey where we sat back and relaxed. Check-in at Liverpool was very smooth and guests that hadn't registered a Debit/Credit beforehand (I was one of them) needn't have worried as the staff were more than happy to help and took no time at all. Once onboard, at every corner there was someone ready to help and show you the way.

I was pleasantly surprised with my allocated inside cabin, 1127 on deck 10. I did find the bathroom a little small, but the cabin had everything from TV, safe, kettle, hairdryer and more than enough wardrobe space for a month-long cruise. Also, plenty of storage under the beds for our suitcases. A quick unpack and look around the ship, and it was off to muster station for the guest safety drill where passengers were already making friends.

Dinner was in the Buckingham restaurant, we had a table for 4 and we were all impressed with the choice of menu, the chicken and I am told the lamb was delicious, not forgetting the pâté, soup, chocolate dessert and cheese, could go on!! After a look in the shop, it was off to Pendennis bar with live music, then onto The Cavern for Jack's Cabaret.

Day 2

After a comfortable night, we decided to try Borough Market for breakfast, again not disappointed. Seating inside or out and very spacious. This buffet restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. After helping ourselves to tea and coffee, which is available all day here on deck 11, it was difficult deciding what to have, but once l spotted the smoked salmon my mind was made up. Dave decided to check the omelette station out and both of us thought it delicious. Lots of choice from continental, full cooked, all the usual cereals, yogurts, fresh fruit, juices, variety of breads and pastries. Also noticed a great choice for vegetarians and gluten free.

After an hour or so relaxing in a cabana, we were so lucky with the weather, watching other guests enjoy the pool and jacuzzi, we walked 10 times around the jogging track on deck 12 which had a sign saying = 1- mile. We even got to see dolphins swimming alongside. Lots of entertainment throughout from line dance class, darts, trivia, bingo and more. I didn't use it, but the gym and spa were amazing for a ship of this size and plenty of space all over Ambition especially on deck 6, promenade deck for downtime, reading or just falling asleep which I think I did for half an hour after a lunch of salad and very tasty cod and chips.

I was lucky enough to have a look at most grades of cabins this afternoon along with the adapted cabins of which there are two on Ambition, both inside and very spacious on deck 9.

Dinner at Holyrood this evening, which is the other main restaurant, even though the menu is the same as the Buckingham, I enjoyed this as it felt more intimate. Finished the evening in the Palladium with The Bootleg Beatles, a fantastic tribute band. A few guests I met booked this cruise because of them, I'm not a fan, but everyone enjoyed it. There was an ABBA party in The Cavern later but decided to give it a miss this time.

Day 3

I didn't have to vacate my cabin until 9.30am, so no rushing. As this was the first time Ambition sailed into Bristol, it felt very special. Disembarkation was easy as only a small ship and everyone had their given time the previous evening. Because of where the ship docks at Bristol, it's a 5-minute coach journey to the terminal building to collect luggage and say goodbye.

Ambassador’s Ambition does what it says on the can, yes, the bathrooms were quite small, but I was very impressed with the light spacious public areas, the food, choice of bars, pool area, the spa/gym and the entertainment for a ship with maximum of just 1,200 passengers.

It's terrific value and I'm looking forward to travelling again, but next time for longer. If you have any questions, please contact me at the Bath shop where I'm more than happy to help.
