First Impressions
26th August 2018:
The Mauricia Beachcomber Resort & Spa is situated on the northwest tip of Mauritius in Grande Bay. It takes just one hour and 20 minutes from the airport by minibus to reach the resort and is well worth the journey. Upon arrival, I was greeted with a cold scented towel and iced lemon water - just what I needed in the hot climate! I felt relaxed as I soaked up the warm friendly atmosphere. The check-in process was quick & efficient and took place in their large reception space which is home to a huge fish tank and an array of beautiful flowers.
Rooms
The rooms are modern and spacious with a fresh feel and décor to match. The views towards Grande Bay in standard beachfront rooms are spectacular. Decorated to emulate a traditional Mediterranean style, each room has comfortable furnishings which are completed with individually controlled air-conditioning, minicar, safe, hairdryer, television with satellite channels and an international direct dial telephone,
Land & Water Sports
If sport is your thing, the Mauricia has many to choose from. Windsurfing, water skiing, sailing, snorkelling and big-game fishing are available here, plus for the more adventurous, you can try a catamaran cruise, speedboats or scuba-diving. You can even play table tennis, tennis or volleyball and work out in their fully equipped fitness centre. Why not try your hand at deep sea fishing? Half or full day trips are available too on a fully equipped specialist finishing boat.
Spa
Nestled away from the hubbub of the main area of the Mauricia lays the resort’s beautiful and tranquil spa; perfect for those looking to escape from the stress of daily life. The spa has a welcoming Moroccan ambiance and features 10 massage cabins, steam room, sauna and a relaxation pool. Treatments are carried out by trained therapists where guests can enjoy beauty treatments as well as massages and facials.
Restaurants
At the Mauricia, you’re really spoilt for choice. Les Quais is the main restaurant and serves breakfast and lunch buffets and themed buffet dinners are served in the evening. The Le Nautic, on the other hand, offers a la carte lunches and dinners. The great thing about this resort, in my opinion, is the option for guests to also enjoy meals at Beachcomber’s two nearby resorts, the Cannonier and Victoria. Both also have excellent restaurants and you can experience all these dining options at no extra cost. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel especially if you have selected an all-inclusive package as there is just so much to choose from and you have even more dining experiences to try at no extra cost.
Children and Teenagers
For teenagers there is an app which shares information about what’s going on in the hotel and the activities available for the upcoming days. The app has proved so successful that Beachcomber are planning to roll it out to its other hotels on the island. Children under 13 are also catered for as the resort provides a children’s club which is available for children between the ages of 3-12 years. While the children are being entertained, you’re given the complete piece of mind that everything is taken care of allowing you to focus on some well-earned ‘me’ time.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the Mauricia. The hotel provides guests with a lovely family-friendly atmosphere which is clean, cosy and ideally located as it’s close to Grand Bay. If, however, you were looking for a more luxurious and plush hotel, there are an impressive array of other Beachcomber hotels which may be more suited to your needs. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you want to know more about this hotel or any other Beachcomber hotels on the island as I’ve experienced them all.
