When I found out I was going to Jordan with Wendy Wu, I was so excited, I knew I was in for a great trip, planned to the ‘T’ with all the iconic spots plus places off the beaten path.
Day 1
Royal Jordanian Airlines are a lovely airline with amazing service. Travelling with Wendy Wu really takes the stress out of travelling for you, seeing the queues of people at the airport in Amman for their visas as we get wizzed through while the Wendy Wu guide gets our visas sorted for us really makes you feel like a VIP. We checked into our hotel called Ambassador Hotel in Amman, which was absolutely lovely.
Day 2
Today we explored Jerash, what a beautiful place with such an interesting history. Being fascinated by the Roman Empire I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the ruins and learning so much about the temples. We stopped for lunch and were brought dish after dish of local cuisine, ranging from beautiful salads to different meats cooked with so many flavours, just beautiful. We then moved on to the Amman Citadel to explore even more ruins and went into the museum. In the evening, we went to a lovely restaurant on Rainbow Street, with its multicoloured lights it had such a magical feel to the place.
Day 3
Now we begin our journey to the south of the country with couple of stops for shopping and to visit Mount Nebo. The views from Mount Nebo are amazing. Here we visited the memorial for Moses and awed at the beauty of the mosaic flooring and art. We even visited a workshop where we learnt about how the mosaic art is made. Tonight, we enjoyed a Jordanian cooking class with a local chef, we learnt new techniques of cooking traditional Jordanian dishes. A few of us after dinner went to the Cave bar right by the entrance of the Petra site. A uniquely styled bar that was once tombs many years ago.
Day 4
A big day was ahead of us today, as we were off to visit the Petra site, as Wendy Wu clients there is a special surprise that will be revealed when you’re on the trip. As an Indiana Jones fan, I was exceptionally excited to see some of the filming spots for The Last Crusade. However, there is one that is absolutely breathtaking… the Treasury! WOW! It’s certainly one of those moments that you wish you could see it for the first time again! No photos or words can really show how amazing that first reveal is, you’ve just got to do it yourself with your own eyes.
We were a bit of a younger group so we took a hike to get some better views and sights, taking this more challenging hike let us see the royal tombs up close. After lunch, we had free time to explore as we wished, so a few of us decided to challenge ourselves even further by climbing 1000 steps to go see the Monastery at the top of the mountains. The climb was hard going, but the reward of seeing the remarkable Monastery made every step worth it. After a day of walking and hiking, we were off again to the Treasury for Petra at night! Led by candlelight paper lanterns, you make your way to the Treasury, when you get there, you get to see a small light show along with a couple of local musicians performing and singing in front of the Treasury. It’s a very beautiful experience.
Day 5
We now make our way to Wadi Rum, before we head off, we make a stop at little Petra, it’s significantly smaller but still wonderful to see. Once we reach Wadi Rum we had some well-deserved free time at the camp to relax by the pool. We then went on a jeep tour around the desert and finished off with a camel ride to a beautiful spot to drink the locals freshly made tea and watched the sun go down. For dinner we had a traditional Wadi Rum meal that is cooked underground, this was my favourite meal of the tour.
Day 6
Today we have a quick visit to Aqaba City before hitting the road to the Dead Sea for the night. Floating in the Dead Sea was amazing and then of course covering yourself in mud, when you wash it off, your skin feels the softest it ever has! An amazing relaxing day to finish off this amazing trip!
