Boston, Cape Cod & Orlando

Rachel Jones

25th April 2017: On a recent trip to Boston, Cape Cod and Orlando, Rachel from our Gloucester branch reveals her reasons as to why a trip to east coast of America can be the trip of a lifetime.

My trip began with a flight from Manchester to JFK airport in New York. Upon arrival, we were taken on a tour of this historic airport which included being driven by Porsche between terminal buildings. The tour also included a visit to the Delta Sky Club lounge before we flew internally to Boston.

Boston

Our hotel for the next two nights was the Godfrey Hotel, Boston; a beautiful, contemporary hotel situated in a central city location with wonderful breakfasts and very comfortable beds.

Fenway Park

We began our second day with a private tour of Fenway Park, home to the Boston Red Sox baseball team. Uniquely nestled in the city of Boston, Fenway Park is America’s most beloved ball park; a place where dreams are made and traditions are celebrated. Baseball is huge here. Steeped in history at over 100 years old, Fenway Park has been the home to some legendary Red Sox players and, during our tour, we learned more about its historic past.

Boston is an amazing place with so much to explore. During our time here we visited its Harpoon Brewery had dinner in the Union Oyster House; Boston’s oldest restaurant. We were lucky enough to also visit the Boch Centre where we watched Circus 1903 – The Golden Age of Circus, which was amazing. A truly old-fashioned circus with contortionists, acrobats and a ring master.

Boston and Harvard

Upon leaving Boston, we headed for a tour of the infamous Harvard University lead by one of its enthusiastic students; I loved this tour. We learned about the history of the University and saw all of its stunning campus buildings.

Cape Cod

From here, we continued to Cape Cod and stopped for a tour of the JFK Museum in Hyannis. Dedicated to the Kennedy family, this small but fascinating museum consisted of photo collections of the Kennedy family while they holidayed in Hyannis. The whole experience was quite emotional due to its historic connotations but I would highly recommend a visit here.

Boston

Overall, my experience at Cape Cod was great. It’s a beautiful area which is quieter in the winter - a stark contrast to its popular summertime. Ideally, I’d recommend you visit from mid-September to mid-October to avoid the peak tourist season.

Snowy

Orlando

Our journey continued with a short internal flight to Orlando, and some much welcomed sunshine where we stayed at the Loews Sapphire Resort for two nights. We were given a VIP tour of the world famous Universal Studios where our VIP access helped us avoid the queues. The rides were thrilling and we had an amazing time soaking up the atmosphere. I’d highly recommend spending time here and booking yourself a few nights at one of the Universal hotels.

Hard Rock Cafe Orlando

In summary, I love the USA. While the trip was busy (four flights in six days), and stark temperature differences between -10 to 25 degrees, I absolutely loved my time there. Boston and New England’s rich history, their beautiful surroundings, topped off with the thrills of Orlando coupled with beautiful sunshine. I can’t wait to go back!
