First Impressions
Date:26/06/2018 Upon arrival at Victoria Beachcomber Resort and Spa, you instantly feel at home. Its comfortable lobby overlooks the large main swimming pool and beautiful beach and sea views. All the rooms here face the sea and are decorated with warm tones which complement the traditional Mauritian décor.
Rooms
Most of the rooms at the hotel sleep a minimum of two adults and one child or infant. However, if you are a larger family or just prefer more space, the Victoria has got you covered. I would recommend the two-bedroom family apartment which sleeps two adults, three children and one infant. Each room within the apartment has its own bathroom. All room categories have air conditioning, a safe and mini bar, with some drinks included if you upgrade to all-inclusive. During your stay you also get complimentary use of an iPhone to use around the resort which allows you to use Wi-Fi, make calls back home or receive updates and last-minute notifications from the hotel. Very handy.
The rooms are beautifully decorated with soft lighting, double or twin beds, a sitting area and a terrace with steps which lead down to private sun beds alongside the pool, which is right outside your patio door. The Victoria is so beautiful, romantic and private. The bathrooms here are very modern with a huge bath and a double walk in shower.
Beach and Water Sports
Victoria is situated on the beach which has a wealth of facilities for guests to make-the-most of. Drinks are available at each of the beach’s two bars which are open from 9.30am-5.30pm and serve teas, coffees, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Upgrade to all-inclusive and you’ll also have access to complimentary snacks such as baguettes, during the day.
There are plenty of water sports to keep you occupied; water skiing, windsurfing, sailing, pedal boats and kayaking just to name a few. These are all included in the cost of your holiday. Scuba diving courses can be taken at the boat house, located directly on the beach, and these start at around £65 per person. Land sports are also included such as tennis, beach volleyball, football and of course, there is a gym with private training sessions available at an extra cost. Golf is also available nearby the hotel with reduced green fees for guests of Victoria.
Spa
Set amongst a natural and serene environment, the spa at Victoria features four single treatment rooms, one outdoor, overwater, double cabin, a sauna and locker rooms and showers. Lots of treatments are available. Massages, facials, manicures, pedicures and an on-site salon allows you to even get a new hair cut if you so wish. Expertly trained therapists are on hand to help you relax and unwind leaving you restored and refreshed.
Children’s Facilities
Children are very well catered for at Victoria Beachcomber. The children's club is open from 10am-10pm for 3-12 years and the teen club, for ages 13-17, is open from 10am to midnight. Teens are also given access to an app they can download to their phones so they know what activities are going on around the resort and offers them the opportunity to connect with other guests of a similar age. Babysitting services are also available for approximately £5 per hour.
Restaurants
Having personally tried two of the a la carte restaurants around the resort; Morris Beef and L'Horizon, I can confidently say you will not be disappointed with the choice available.
Morris Beef is a steak house and only available to adults whereas L'Horizon is an a la carte sea food restaurant opens for evening meals. L’Horizon features a set menu with a choice of six starters, six main courses and six deserts.
The Victoria Beachcomber also offers Italian cuisine at its La Casa restaurant. La Casa serves fresh pasta dishes along with pizza and a delicious choice of traditional Italian deserts. Le Superbe is the main dining area and meals are served in a buffet style.
Each evening there is a different theme for dinner and choices are rotated every 15 days so guests won’t be offered the same meal choice twice during their stay.
The Nautil Cafe serves drinks and snacks at certain times of the day and are complimentary for all-inclusive guests.
Victoria For 2
One of the newest parts of the resort, Victoria for 2 is a section of the hotel which caters for adults exclusively. There are 40 ocean-view rooms on the first floor and 17 swim-up rooms on the ground floor. Opened in 2017, this part of the hotel feels like a little haven of peacefulness within a predominately lively resort. Each room is water-facing and offers guests the opportunity to make-the-most of the stunning Mauritian sunsets. Within this part of the resort, guests have their own private section of the beach which includes the first swim-up bar on the island and access to all the restaurants around the resort, including Morris Beef steak house, which is adult only.
Final Thoughts
I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to families with children of any age and couples who like to be as active or as lazy as you wish to be on holiday. The proximity to Grand Baie means you can sample the local area and, with two other Beachcomber hotels within a short drive, the Cannioner and Mauricia, you are also able to dine at either of these.
I would be delighted to share my experience of Victoria Beachcomber with you so if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
