Bavaria’s hearty cuisine has its own special flavour. It’s famous for superb wine and beer that’s red or has a hint of bacon. Sausages come in all sizes, some with a little spice, some with a blue tinge. Locals have their own version of macaroni cheese and serve delicious cakes in doorstep slices. Centuries-old recipes have been perfected in towns that are even older; and you won’t be disappointed with the medieval delights and timber-framed houses you’ll find, as we explore some of the finest towns in Southern Germany.

Day 1: UK - Munich - Nuremberg
Titan's VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home for your flight to Munich. On arrival we transfer to our hotel in central Nuremburg.
Day 2: Nuremburg
Walk through centuries of Nuremberg’s history on a guided walking tour. Since its days as an undeclared capital of the Holy Roman Empire, many German kings lived here and oversaw the creation of some wonderful architecture. It became the centre of Germany’s industrial revolution, then the location of huge Nazi rallies, and was reduced to rubble in 1945. Much of the old town, including the castle and churches, has been carefully restored to impressive grandeur. The afternoon is free to make your own discoveries, such as the Nürnberger bratwurst - the unique, premium sausage created in Nuremberg over 700 years ago - and the local takes on melt-in-your mouth gingerbread and red
Day 3: Weltenburg
This morning we make our way to Kelheim, a medieval city on the banks of the Danube. There’s no better way to appreciate the area’s natural beauty than by boat. Take your seat as we cruise through the twisting Danube Gorge, where tiny white villages are tucked between huge limestone cliffs and steep, tree-covered banks. We disembark for a tour of Weltenburg Abbey. This beautiful Benedictine sanctuary is famed for having the world’s oldest monastic brewery - they’ve spent almost a millennium perfecting their award-winning recipe.
Day 4: Rothenburg - Würzburg
We depart for Rothenburg, where your camera shutter will be unstoppable as we take a guided walking tour through a medieval fairytale of beautifully preserved timber buildings, stone towers and city walls. We continue to our hotel, close to the centre of Würzburg.
Day 5: Würzburg
Würzburg is the centre of Franconia’s wine-growing region, but as it’s frowned upon to drink wine early in the day, we start with a guided walking tour. The city is renowned for great art and architecture, including one of the fi nest baroque buildings in Germany - the Residenz Palace. Much of the city’s history involves the Prince Bishops who lived here; they even played a part in the city’s wineries. Even the ‘Court Cellar’ deep inside the Würzburg Residence became an independent Bavarian state winery. We then visit Staatlicher Hofkeller Würzburg for a guided tour and a little wine tasting; and there’s lots of varieties to choose from - fruity domina, spicy pinot noir, citrusy albalonga, slightly fl oral bacchus and tingly rotling to name a few. Which will be your favourite? The afternoon is free.
Day 6: Bamberg
This morning we take a guided walking tour of Bamberg. It’s a prosperous centre of Bavarian history and culture, dominated by an imperial medieval cathedral. Bamberg is famous for beer, with 11 breweries in the town and 60 more in the surrounding area, all creating their own version of the region’s unique smoky or bacon flavour. Enjoy a glass of local beer, or Franconian wine, with our two-course lunch. The town is known for a lightly spiced sausage, which might be served with their own twist on sauerkraut. Other local favourites include blaue zipfel (Bamberg pork sausages with a blue tint from juniper berries) and Bamberger zwiebeln (onion stuffed with smoked pork belly and steamed with spices). There’ll be free time before returning to the hotel.
Day 7: Würzburg
A guided tour takes us to Würzburg Residenz, an elaborate rococo palace. Exquisite frescoes, tapestries and furnishings decorate the fine Court Chapel, world-famous staircase, and other rooms we see this morning (up to 40 of the hundreds within this huge building). The Würzburg Court Garden is just as delightful, with beds artfully fashioned into geometric shapes. Our tour ends at Bürgerspital Würzburg, one of the oldest and largest wine estates in Germany. The first vineyards were planted in 1321 to serve the needs of the onsite home for the elderly and the poor. Today the vineyard produces red, white and sparkling wines, and you’ll taste three of them before taking the rest of the day at leisure.
Day 8: Würzburg - Frankfurt - UK
Transfer to the airport for your return fl ight to the UK. Upon arrival, your Titan vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.
