Travel Specialist - New to Travel - Job Description
Bring your sales skills. We’ll help you build your travel expertise.
Love travel? Brilliant with people? Enjoy the buzz of making a sale and delivering service that customers remember?
At Miles Morgan Travel, we’re looking for enthusiastic people with experience in a targeted sales environment who are ready to turn their passion for travel into a career. You don’t need previous travel industry experience—we’ll provide the training, guidance and support to help you succeed.
About Miles Morgan Travel
Our shops are part of the communities they serve. Customers come to us for expert advice, a friendly face and the reassurance of having someone who listens, understands and takes care of the details.
From a short break to a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, we help customers find the holiday that’s right for them. We build relationships that last beyond one booking, giving people a reason to return to their local Miles Morgan Travel team year after year.
As part of the Hays Travel Group, we benefit from wider training and development support while keeping the personal service and local relationships that make MMT special.
The role
You’ll join your local shop team and learn how to turn customer ideas into holidays they can’t wait to take. This is an active sales role, combining thoughtful advice, confident recommendations and consistent follow-up with a focus on achieving your targets.
You’ll get to know your customers, understand what matters to them and use your growing knowledge to recommend suitable destinations, holidays and travel extras.
What you'll do
- Welcome customers into the shop and provide a warm, attentive service over the phone and online.
- Ask the right questions to understand customers’ interests, needs and budgets.
- Research, recommend and sell holidays, including beach breaks, cruises, escorted tours and tailor-made trips.
- Take ownership of enquiries, provide timely quotations and follow up confidently to secure bookings.
- Work towards individual and shop sales and profit targets, making the most of each opportunity.
- Discuss relevant extras, including travel insurance, foreign currency, airport parking and excursions.
- Keep accurate customer and booking records, following company procedures and completing the required checks.
- Support customers throughout their booking journey, including helping with queries and changes.
- Build lasting relationships that encourage repeat bookings and recommendations.
- Support local events, marketing and shop social media to showcase our expertise and connect with the community.
- Keep learning about destinations, suppliers and products, sharing your knowledge with colleagues.
What you'll bring
- At least one year’s experience in a targeted sales environment.
- A track record of achieving targets and providing excellent customer service.
- A passion for travel and a willingness to learn.
- Confidence speaking with people, listening carefully and making recommendations.
- The motivation to follow up opportunities and turn enquiries into sales.
- Good organisation, attention to detail and confidence using computer systems.
- A positive approach to teamwork and flexibility to work the shop’s rota, including Saturdays.
Your training and development
You’ll receive a structured, paid 12-week training programme covering travel products, destinations, suppliers, booking systems and the skills needed to become a successful Travel Consultant.
Alongside your training, your shop manager and colleagues will help you put your learning into practice, build confidence and develop your own customer relationships.
The role requires full-time availability of 37.5 hours per week for 12 weeks, before moving into your new role, again in a full-time ONLY capacity.
Why join MMT?
You’ll be part of a team where your contribution matters, your successes are celebrated and the relationships you build make a real difference.
This is an opportunity to bring your existing sales skills into an industry you love, develop specialist knowledge and build a long-term career with Miles Morgan Travel.
