Mollie's Oceania Vista Experience

Mollie Oceania

I was lucky enough to be invited to look around Oceania’s brand-new ship Vista whilst it was docked in Southampton. Vista only started sailing in May 2023.

I started off my day by getting the train down to Southampton from Chippenham, which was super straightforward, with just one change in Bath. We then got a taxi down to the Horizon Terminal; this was very cheap and quick. Going through security was a breeze and we were on the ship in no time. When boarding the ship, we were greeted by a violin quartet which really made our entrance feel relaxing and luxurious.

We then kicked off the tour with the suites, starting with the Owners Suite and wow, the biggest cabin I have seen and beautifully decorated, designed by Ralph Lauren Home. We then looked at the Oceania, Vista and Penthouse Suites, again beautifully decorated with light, modern decor and complimentary Bvlgari toiletries for that added element of luxury. These cabins also have a dedicated concierge service. The balconies were spacious and added such lightness to the cabins. They do have inside cabins available, however these usually go to the crew onboard as guests prefer the spacious balcony cabins and suites. As well as this, upon arrival guests are greeted in their cabin with Champagne and Macaroons- a very luxurious touch.

We then went and explored the rest of the ship- there is an undeniable feel of pure luxury throughout the ship, with careful consideration of details from the ceilings to the floors. For a small ship, the choice of restaurants was incredible, with over 8 different places to eat whilst you're onboard. From The Grand Dining area to Red Ginger serving Asian Fusion and the Polo Grill inspired by New York dining with customary Versace China, this ship really does have something for everyone to eat. Oceania is definitely a cruise line for foodies; for every 10 guests there is 1 chef onboard.

In a few of the restaurants on board, they have a private dining area which you can book which is perfect if you are travelling in a large group or for a special occasion. The Grand Dining Area also changes its menu daily, so there is a never-ending choice of fine cuisine. The buffet restaurant also has the opportunity for Al Fresco dining, perfect to enjoy your meal whilst sailing along in the sunshine. As well as an incredible choice of restaurants, there are also multiple bars on board, a cafe called Baristas and a brand-new bakery, with fresh baked treats available daily.

We then visited the Spa and Wellness areas. How gorgeous and relaxing. Guests can immerse themselves into the gym or choose to partake in Pilates, spin or yoga classes throughout the duration of their cruise. They can then head over to the Aquamar Spa and indulge in spa treatments, saunas and even beauty treatments as there are both hair and nail salons on board. This does come at an extra fee, but worth it if you want a day of pampering whilst at sea.

On board Vista, there are ample opportunities to learn a new skill. There is an Artist room where you can attend daily art classes with a resident artist, all art canvases then get presented on the walls of the classroom for the remainder of the cruise. You can also purchase the art of the resident artist whilst on board, so you can take home a rather large souvenir! One of my favourite areas was the Culinary Kitchen, where guests can take cooking classes with a resident chef. If taking part in these classes, you have the option to go on onshore excursions with the chef such as salmon fishing and then bringing the salmon back to the ship and preparing it for dinner. There are also dedicated technology zones so guests can learn new technological skills, including photography courses and social media courses.

I was impressed by the entertainment stage, with seating to fit all guests on the ship and a decent sized stage, there is one entertainment show per evening, with bands playing . Although Oceania isn't a cruise renowned for its evening entertainment, it has been receiving some rave reviews!

Finally, we sat down for dinner in the Grand Dining Area to sample some of the dishes and I must say, I was blown away by the food that was prepared for us. We started off our 5-course meal with 2 starters- Caviar and Jumbo breaded Shrimp. Following by a delicious Beef Tenderloin served with Truffled semolina gnocchi and glazed carrots. Lastly for dessert we had a Papuan Chocolate Volcano. If I'm being honest, this was some of the best food I have ever had. The flavours paired perfectly together, and I can really see why these cruises are a foodie-heaven.

After an amazing day onboard Vista we sadly departed, and sailed smoothly back through security before getting the train home. I loved the luxurious feel of Oceania and would love to experience a cruise with them!
