Full Itinerary

Day 1: Southampton

Day 2-4: At Sea

Day 5-6: Funchal, Madeira, Portugal

As you’ll see, Madeira’s reputation as the ‘Garden Island’ is well founded. It’s swathed in lush greenery and bears all manner of tropical fruits. The region is famous for its delicious Madeira wine.

Day 7: Tenerife, Spain

Beloved for its beaches, Tenerife also offers a feast for the eyes. Either from the numerous galleries and museums or the incredibly panoramic cable car ascent of Mount Teide, there is so much to see. Tenerife is soothing on the ears, too. Listen for the timple, a distinctive element of Canarian folk music, or perhaps catch a recital at the Auditorio, home to the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra.

Day 8: Gran Canaria, Spain

This almost perfectly circular isle is known for its historic towns and an incredible diversity of scenery. This includes its sandy south, where golden beaches extend back into desert-like dunes. Its capital, Las Palmas, on the northwest of the island, was a stopping-point for Columbus on his 1492 adventure to the New World. The ornate former governor’s house in the historic Vergueta district, where it’s claimed he stayed while his ships were repaired, is now a museum in his honour.

Day 9: Lanzarote, Spain

It’s easy to understand why the island of Lanzarote is so popular. Fire Mountain and the curious vineyards of Le Geria amid the volcanic island scenery are just some of the many highlights that await. Timanfaya National Park is a vivid volcanic showcase, where water poured into boreholes, hisses back out as steam and you can feast on a smorgasbord of specialities, cooked by heat from Earth’s core.

Day 10: At Sea

Day 11: Seville (tours from Cadiz), Spain

Historic, mysterious and romantic, the Spanish city of Cadiz is unlike any other. Founded in about 1100 BC, it is generally accepted as the oldest continuously inhabited settlement in today’s Europe. But for the thin strip connecting it to the mainland to its south, Cadiz is an island of history and architecture that impresses at every turn through the streets of this charming ancient port.

Day 12: Lisbon, Portugal

As the capital of Portugal, Lisbon triumphantly spreads its welcoming city atmosphere and its several impressive ancient sites over the seven steep hillsides that overlook the Tagus Estuary and River. Take in St. George’s Castle, overlooking the city from atop its highest hill, and stroll through the countless balconies ablaze with geraniums and iron lamps in the medieval Alfama quarter.

Day 13-14: At Sea
