The Ama Magna is the flagship of Ama Waterways and has raised the bar to a level which all serious river cruise companies must endeavour to match. Anyone who thinks they have experienced river cruising must think again and take a trip on this amazing ship.
At double the width of the normal river boats, you will experience a great sense of space which is not only to be enjoyed in the social areas but in very spacious cabins in every grade. There are many characteristics of the ship’s design and layout which impact on your personal experience, but by far it is the dining arrangements that will leave lasting memories. Four quite different dining venues await your selection linked by the shared goal of delivering outstanding service and quality.
The day starts with breakfast in the main dining room with an incredible choice of food to satisfy all tastes, but if you can't see it just ask and you won't be disappointed. My personal preference for breakfast was the bright and airy Al Fresco where the views complimented the substantial buffet. Lunch in both these restaurants is continuously creative and complimented by a great selection of wines.
As a self-confessed foodie, the most outstanding characteristic of the ship was a choice of 4 distinctly different venues for you to chose from for your evening meal.
With afternoon tea and late night buffets you can eat as and when your timetable allows. Tea and coffee are available in a central location 24 hours a day.
The expansive central bar area is a comfortable venue for the complimentary cocktail hour and post dinner drinks and entertainments. This area also hosts lectures and meetings.
Days both on board and on land are filled with a selection of experiences designed to suite all tastes and adventure levels. The Daily Cruiser (which you will have delivered to your room each evening) will ensure you miss none of the choices available to you each day and scenic highlights you would not want to miss.
I’m not an obvious candidate for river cruising, but this experience continuously surprised me with the huge amount of varied excursions included in the trip and I still had time to take advantage of the wellness programme, enjoy the pool and hot tub when I was not on my balcony enjoying the changing scenery.
Make this your next travel experience and you will not be sorry you chose to travel on the AMA Magna.
