4 Reasons to Stay at The Ritz Carlton, Abama

Meg at The Ritz Carlton

2nd November 2016: Earlier this year I had a 4-day luxury break to Tenerife, which I would now recommend to anyone. With top luxury hotels and plenty of unspoilt areas to discover, it was the perfect place to spend a few days enjoying pure rest, relaxation and indulgence. Here are just four reasons why you should choose the Ritz Carlton, Abama for your next break.

1. Location

Sometimes when you mention Tenerife, people are immediately put off, imagining a busy lively island, with lots of tall concrete buildings and full of tourists, and if I’m honest, that was my initial thought too, but having now experienced it for myself, I can safely say I’ve been converted. The flight takes just 4 hours and there is also no time difference, which is really handy for the body clock. The airport is small and very easy to navigate so it is ideal for a quick break away, so within 30 minutes of landing, we had collected our bags, met our private transfer and we were on our way to the Abama.

The hotel itself is in an isolated location, on the secluded enclave of Guía de Isora, and with so much to do onsite; I didn’t feel the need to venture out. One of the Canary Island’s most exclusive resorts, you can really escape from it all.

2. Service

Within 30 minutes of leaving the airport, we had arrived at the grand entrance to the Ritz Carlton, where the staff were waiting with a smile, as well as a greatly received glass of champagne. Our luggage was taken from us there, and we did not see it again until we were in our room. A lovely welcome and easy check in meant a quick freshen up, before heading straight out to the pool.

3. Facilities

On site you have a golf course, seven swimming pools, a secluded golden sand beach, which is located in a cove below the property and accessed by the hotel's private train service. There are also ten restaurants to choose from, and we took the opportunity to dine in four of them, but the El Mirador is one not to be missed. Be sure to make your reservations in advance, for the restaurants get booked up very quickly.

For those feeling more active, you also have a tennis academy with 7 tennis courts and 4 paddle courts, state-of-the-art fitness centre and as well as a luxurious spa to pamper yourself afterwards. I visited the spa one morning, which was beautiful and very peaceful. My 30-minute massage was just what the doctor ordered, adding to my state of total relaxation!

The hotel offers a great family programme, including the ability to hire out nannies to families, which seemed a very popular thing to do. I was actually surprised at how many families were at this hotel so the adult only section would be better for any couples travelling.

4. Rooms

I stayed in a deluxe ocean view room in the Citadel building, which I could not fault. Rooms were spacious and luxurious, however, if I was to return again, I think I would splash out a little more and upgrade to the Tagor Villas, which are adult only and come with a lot more perks.

All in all it was a top class hotel with impeccable staff, I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel what so ever.
