Russia is an intriguing country and despite its accessibility it still maintains an air of mystery. The mighty Kremlin shrouds many secrets behind its huge brick walls and Moscow’s extravagantly beautiful underground stations leave many visitors in awe.

Take the train to historic St. Petersburg and continue the theme of extravagance with a series of shimmering palaces and grand gardens. And whilst in this opulent city, the most northerly in the world, take the unique opportunity to stand amongst over 3 million exquisite works of art as you encounter the acclaimed Hermitage museum.

You’ll stay in 4-star hotels throughout and this fully escorted tour included excursions to the Kremlin, Red Square, Catherine’s Grand Palace and many more iconic sites.

Full Itinerary

Day 1: London - Moscow

Fly to Moscow. Meet your travelling companions over a drink and dinner this evening.

Day 2: Moscow

The city of Moscow was founded in 1147 as a wooden fortress, which developed into the Kremlin as we know it today. Over the years Moscow has grown into a city of immense contrasts – on the one hand a city with many great historical buildings, on the other hand a vibrant modern city of over eight million people. Your included tour this morning takes you to see the major sights including the Kremlin, Red Square and St Basil’s Cathedral. This afternoon why not see the city from another angle with an optional cruise on the Moskva River (May to September only).

Day 3: Moscow

Moscow’s ornate underground stations are each unique in style and you will have the opportunity to visit a selection of them today. An impressive structure above the ground is the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, its stark white walls and shimmering gold domes seem to light up the landscape. Novodevichey cemetery is the final resting place for many high-profile Russian and Soviet figures including Chekhov, Khrushchev, Shostakovich and Raisa Gorbachev and we will visit here too. In the evening many of Moscow’s monuments are illuminated and this evening we offer an optional tour to experience the city by night.

Day 4: Moscow & St Petersburg

Moscow’s Kremlin shrouds many secrets within its walls. Today tour the grounds of the Kremlin territory and pay a visit to the Cathedral of the Assumption - we include a tour to both. The Armoury museum, which is contained within the Kremlin complex, houses a collection of imperial clothing, arms, carriages and many other treasures – you will have the option to visit here today.

This afternoon we travel to St. Petersburg by modern, high-speed Sapsan train.

Day 5: St Petersburg

Formerly Leningrad, St. Petersburg was the capital of Russia until the October Revolution in 1917. Today it is a city of beautiful Baroque palaces, elaborate cathedrals and picturesque canals. Join our panoramic city tour to view such impressive buildings as the Hermitage, Admiralty and more. You can also join our optional excursion which takes you inside the Hermitage, where you’ll see one of the world’s greatest art collections. Housed in the beautiful Winter Palace, it is home to over two million exhibits. The collection was started by Catherine the Great and then expanded by successive rulers.

Day 6: St Petersburg

Today you will have the opportunity to explore St. Petersburg at your own pace, alternatively join an optional excursion to Catherine’s Grand Palace in Pushkin. The ornate palace was originally constructed in the early 1700s with additions being made to the style of the palace over the subsequent decades meaning that the palace you see before you is a collaboration of the work of several architects. This evening you will have the chance to watch a traditional folklore show.

Day 7: St Petersburg

Peterhof, Peter the Great’s beautiful summer palace, boasts extensive gardens, elaborate fountains and ornate interior decoration. There is so much to admire at this renowned palace and our full-day included tour today will allow you plenty of time to explore. This evening enjoy a farewell get-together and dinner with your travelling companions.

Day 8: St Petersburg - London

Peter and Paul Fortress, where Peter the Great laid the city’s foundation stone, is our destination on the final morning of your holiday. Here you’ll also see an impressive collection of buildings built on an island in the Neva River. Later you will take your return flight to the UK.
