Overview

An island like no other, Madagascar is home to an incredible array of flora and fauna evolved from 80 million years of isolation in the Indian Ocean. Go in search of the island's native wildlife before heading to Réunion for the chance to admire the island's spectacular scenery. Your tour ends with a relaxing four-night stay in Mauritius, where you can choose to do as much or as little as you like.

Full Itinerary

Day 1: UK-Antananarivo

After taking Saga’s included UK door-to-door travel service to the airport, depart in the morning for your flight to Madagascar, arriving late at night. Travel to the Carlton Hotel for one night.

Day 2: Antananarivo-Antsirabe

After a relaxing morning at the hotel, journey through rural Madgascar observing the way of life and cottage industries in Ambatolamy en route to Antsirabe. Stay overnight at Le Royal Palace. B,D

Day 3: Antsirabe-Ranomafana

Enjoy a short tour of the city then travel through a mountainous landscape to the small settlement of Ranomafana on the outskirts of the Ranomafana National Park. Spend two nights at the Setam Lodge, which offers panoramic views across the park. B,L,D

Day 4: Ranomafana National Park

Explore the park known for its lemurs, on a morning and an evening tour returning to the hotel for lunch. B, L, D

Day 5: Antisrabe

Travel back to Antsirabe and visit some cottage industries. Stay overnight at Le Royal Palace (3Q). B

Day 6: Antsirabe-Antananarivo

Return to the capital and enjoy a panoramic city tour. Stay overnight at the Carlton Hotel. B, L, D

Day 7: Antananarivo-Andasibe

Travel to Andasibe and enjoy lunch at the Vakona Forest Lodge, where you stay for the next two nights. Visit the Vakona Private Reserve and its ‘Lemur Island’, perhaps joining an optional evening visit there. B, L, D

Day 8: Andasibe

Discover some of Madagascar’s wildlife on a guided visit to Analamazaotra Special Reserve. Optional afternoon excursion. B

Day 9: Antananarivo-Saint-Gilles les Bains

Return to Antananarivo airport, visiting a butterly farm at Marozevo en route. Fly to Saint-Denis and spend three nights at LUX* St Gilles, La Réunion, at Saint-Gilles les Bains. B, D

Day 10: Saint-Gilles les Bains

Visit Cilaos Cirque,a naturally-occuring amphitheatre set some 1300 metres above sea level. B, L, D

Day 11: Saint-Gilles les Bains

An optional excursion explores the island’s wild southern coast. B, D

Day 12: Saint-Denis-Bel Combre

Fly to Mauritius. Transfer to Bel Ombre for a four-night stay at the Tamassa, An All Inclusive Resort. The free Saga bar is open from 11am to midnight. B, L, D

Day 13: Bel Ombre South island tour

A half-day excursion visits the Sacred Lake of Grand Bassin, Black River Gorges National Park, a rum distillery in Chamarel, and Chamarel Waterfalls. B, L, D

Day 14: Bel Ombre

Optional tour of colonial Mauritius. B, L, D

Day 15: Bel Ombre

Optional excursions to choose from include a catamaran cruise; visit the Royal Botanical Gardens; or an underwater walk at Trou aux Biches. B, L, D

Day 16: Bel Ombre-UK

Overnight flight back to the UK.

Day 17: UK

Arrive in the UK in the morning
