Wonder at the beauty of Neuschwanstein, the blueprint for fairy-tale castles the world over and commissioned as a retreat by King Ludwig II. Visit another of his elaborate residences, Linderhof Palace, and marvel at the sheer extravagance of its interior, dripping with gold and dazzling chandeliers. In between, we explore Bavaria’s exciting capital, Munich, including the vast English Garden and spectacular Residenzmuseum.

Day 1: UK - Munich

Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home for your flight to Munich. Upon arrival, we’ll check into our hotel, the Leonardo Hotel Munich City East (4T) or Maritim Hotel Munich (4T). We’ll then set out on a guided tour of Munich you will be introduced to the highlights of Bavaria’s vibrant capital, including the Olympic Park, where the 1972 Olympic Games took place, the Residenz, once the city palace of Bavaria’s kings and Munich’s main public square, the Marienplatz, dominated by the Neo-Gothic New Town Hall with its famous glockenspiel featuring life-size human figures. We’ll enjoy dinner at a traditional Bavarian beer cellar this evening. Please note dinner venues on days 1-2 are subject to change.

Day 2: Munich

This morning we’ll waste no time in discovering some of the city’s highlights. Enjoy a guided tour of the English Garden, one of the largest urban parks in the world, first laid out in 1789. There will be some free time this afternoon.

Day 3: Neuschwanstein - Füssen

After breakfast we head out on a full-day excursion to visit what many regard as the most beautiful castle in the world, Neuschwanstein. Completed in 1880 as a private hideaway for the reclusive King Ludwig II, it was designed as a fantastical, fairy-tale palace, reflecting the King’s obsession with medieval legends and the operas of Richard Wagner. It was still unfinished when he died in mysterious circumstances in 1886. Inside, the highly ornate rooms are adorned with murals depicting kings, saints, poets and knights, including Siegfried and Lohengrin, the ‘Swan Knight’. After some leisure time we visit the lovely town of Füssen, at the southern end of the Romantic Road, with its Gothic castle and former monastery, both now housing art galleries.

Day 4: Munich

You are free to explore Munich at your own pace today. Alternatively, you could join an optional excursion to Herrenchiemsee Palace, another of King Ludwig II’s extravagant residences, built on an island in Bavaria’s largest lake, Chiemsee.

Day 5: Linderhof Palace

Today we visit Linderhof Palace, built in the rococo style for King Ludwig II in the 1870s. Set in attractive landscaped gardens, the opulent interiors include a shimmering Hall of Mirrors, gigantic chandeliers and a wealth of gilt carvings and elaborate furnishings. Enjoy a stroll around the grounds, where you’ll find follies including the Moorish Kiosk and the Moroccan House.

Day 6: Munich

Today you are free to relax or make your own explorations. Otherwise, you might like to join an optional excursion to the Baroque Nymphenburg Palace, once the summer residence of the Bavarian royal family.

Day 7: Munich - UK

Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. Upon arrival, you will be met by a Titan vehicle for the journey home.
