River Cruise to the Heart of Germany

Discover spectacular scenery along the Rhine and Main rivers as we sail from Cologne to Nuremberg through some of Germany’s most dramatic landscapes. We’ll meander through the Rhine Gorge where fairytale castles and soaring steeples perch high above the riverbanks, and vertiginous vineyards alternate with forested hillsides. Gliding along the Main, we’ll spy the lofty palaces of medieval Rothenburg, and the idyllic towns and villages of Ochsenfurt and Bamberg. We’ll explore historic Koblenz and get lost in the cobblestoned streets of Miltenberg, all before arriving in the historic city of Nuremberg.

Day 1 - UK - Düsseldorf - Cologne

Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your flight to Düsseldorf. Upon arrival, we transfer to Cologne and embark our ship, where light refreshments are available.

Day 2 - Koblenz - Boppard

Where the Rhine and Moselle rivers meet sits Koblenz. We’ll spend time wandering the city’s string of charming squares on a city tour, before taking the cable car up to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress - the perfect vantage point to snap a postcard view of the rivers below. We then sail to the quaint and traditional German town of Boppard, where you’ll have the rest of the afternoon and evening free to explore. Maybe take in the Roman fortress and medieval town walls or stroll along the pretty riverfront promenade.

Day 3 - Boppard - Lorelei Passage - Rüdesheim

Take your spot up on the sundeck for the best views of the magnificent scenery, as we sail through the Lorelei Passage - famed as the most beautiful stretch of the Rhine. Our river cruise then takes us to pretty Rüdesheim, with the afternoon free to explore. The town is surrounded by vast vineyards and filled with picturesque, timber-framed houses. Maybe take the cable car up into the hills for stunning views or join an optional excursion to the quirky Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Museum.

Day 4 - Mainz

With historic significance as a leading trade centre and Germany’s wine capital, we’ll take a guided tour of captivating Mainz - a city that has evolved from a 1st-century Roman citadel. We’ll wander the winding cobblestone streets of the Old Town and visit Mainz’s huge Romanesque cathedral.

Day 5 - Miltenburg - Wertheim

Like a scene plucked straight from a fairytale, Miltenberg has over 100 listed half-timber-framed houses. We’ll have time to wander the pedestrianised streets and admire their colourful facades, soaking in the magical atmosphere. If you like beer, there’s an optional beer tasting to join. Later, we continue to Wertheim, where the castle’s impressive turrets peek out above the green hills, providing a glimpse into the town’s medieval grandeur.

Day 6 - Würzburg

Würzburg started as a glorious pilgrimage city, where prince-bishops used their wealth to create the beautiful palace that we’ll visit as part of our tour this morning. The breathtaking ceilings of the palace have to be seen to be believed. The rest of the day is free for you to explore. Visit the vibrant Old Town that was painstakingly rebuilt after World War II bombings or visit the Marienberg Fortress and enjoy the panoramic views from up high.

Day 7 - Würzburg - Rothenburg - Ochsenfurt

We take a drive along the Romantic Road - a perfectly named route made up of cinematic landscapes, imposing castles, and grand palaces. We’ll arrive at the enchanting medieval walled village of Rothenburg for a guided tour. From the village be sure to take in has glorious views of the meandering river below. Later, our ship sails to Ochsenfurt, nestled on the banks of the Main. This afternoon we’ll explore this picturesque little town on a guided tour, with its romantic, half-timbered houses and ancient ramparts.

Day 8 - Bamberg

Arriving in Bamberg after lunch, you’ll have some free time to explore this architectural masterpiece. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bamberg is considered to be one of Germany’s most attractive towns. Built by archbishops, it occupies seven hills bisected by canals and rivers. You’ll also have the option of a walking tour to discover the fascinating history of this Bavarian gem, including the beautiful Rose Gardens.

Day 9 - Nuremberg

For centuries Nuremberg was home to German royalty, and the powerhouse of the industrial revolution. Perhaps one of the reasons the Nazi’s chose it to stage their party rallies. On a guided tour, we’ll discover the city’s thought-provoking story, from the infamous Nuremberg trials to the meticulous reconstruction of the city’s greatest buildings. The afternoon is free.

Day 10 - Nuremberg - Munich - UK

We transfer to Munich airport for your return flight to the UK. Upon arrival, your Titan vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.
