Newfoundland and Nova Scotia
Overview
Newfoundland & Nova Scotia
Perched on the edge of North America, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia - Canada’s two most easterly provinces - are unlike the rest of Canada in their cultural traditions. The country’s closest points to Europe, the locals here are descendants from English, Scottish and Irish settlers. Our Newfoundland and Nova Scotia tours introduce you to some of the region's highlights. Explore Nova Scotia’s rugged southern coastline, cruise the scenic, iceberg-studded waters to spot dolphins and seabirds and walk in UNESCO-listed Gros Morne National Park, spending time in the vibrant cities and pretty towns along the way.

Full Itinerary
Day 1 – London to Halifax
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home for your flight to Halifax. On arrival we’ll transfer to our hotel.
Day 2 – Halifax
Nova Scotia’s southern coastline is iconic and today we take in all its rugged beauty as we make our way to Peggy’s Cove. Here, take your own stab at photographing the famous white-and-red striped lighthouse that punctuates the rocky seascape. The area is very pretty and you might like to take a moment to perch on a nearby rock and breathe in the salty air, listen to the gulls overhead and watch the fishing boats bobbing on the waves.
Back in Halifax this afternoon, you can enjoy the rest of the day to explore as you please.
Visit Peggy’s Cove (morning)
Day 3 – Pictou - Sydney
We depart Halifax for Pictou, the ‘birthplace of New Scotland’. It was here in 1773 that the first Scottish settlers arrived in Nova Scotia on the ship Hector, a replica of which can be explored in the Heritage Quay. We move on, stopping in Port Hawksbury to view the Canso Causeway before arriving in St Peters on the beautiful Cape Breton Island. Here a stop will be made for light refreshments before we depart for Sydney.
Visit Pictou and Canso Causeway (morning)
Day 4 – Corner Brook
We leave Nova Scotia as we join the ferry service to Newfoundland and Labrador. On arrival we journey to Corner Brook and our hotel, situated at the mouth of the Humber River nestled between the Long Range Mountains and the open sea.
Day 5 – The Viking Trail - St Anthony
From Corner Brook we travel north along the Viking Trail, via Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Within the park is Tablelands, a barren ledge of rock over 80km in length that has been pushed up from deep beneath the ocean floor. We continue along the Viking Trail to our destination for the next two nights, St Anthony.
Gros Morne National Park and the Viking Trail (all day)
Day 6 – Iceberg Alley
We take to the ocean this morning for an exciting cruise in the scenic coastal waters off St Anthony - Iceberg Alley. The area is famous for its bounty of icebergs, whales, dolphins and seabirds (seasonally May-August). We then visit the Grenfell Mission, founded in the 1890s by Dr Wilfred Grenfell to provide medical services and care to the isolated people of northern Newfoundland and Labrador. This afternoon we make the short journey north to UNESCO-protected L’Anse aux Meadows, a 1,000-year-old Viking settlement with a pristine and unspoiled landscape.
Cruise Iceberg Alley (morning) Visit the Grenfell House Museum (morning) Visit L’Anse aux Meadows Viking Settlement (afternoon)
Day 7 – Port au Choix - Rocky Harbour
This morning we travel to Port au Choix National Historic Site. The one constant denominator for all of the communities that have lived along the Viking Trail, is their dependence on the sea. At Port au Choix we’ll learn of the Maritime Archaic and Dorset peoples who lived here long before the Europeans had arrived. This afternoon we retrace our tracks along the Viking Trail to Rocky Harbour visiting the Torrent River Salmon Interpretation Centre and Fishway, to discover the story of Atlantic salmon and stop at Arches rock formation.
Visit Port au Choix National Historic Site (morning) Visit Torrent River Salmon Interpretation Centre (afternoon)
Day 8 – We’ll travel to the southern end of Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to visit the visitor centre and Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse, including entrance to the interpretative exhibit.
We stop at the Bonne Bay Marine station where you can experience a touch tank while learning about the amazing sea life of Bonne Bay and the latest research in marine ecology. Later this afternoon we return to our hotel to enjoy time at leisure.
Visit Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse (morning)
Day 9 - Gros Morne National Park - Grand Falls-Windsor
Today we enjoy an included boat cruise in the heart of the stunning Gros Morne National Park, a highlight of our Newfoundland holidays. We’ll witness some of the most overwhelming scenery in the park, so be sure to have your cameras ready. Entrance to Gros Morne Discovery Centre is also included. Later this afternoon, we travel to Grand Falls-Windsor and our overnight hotel.

Day 10 - Twillingate - Gander
Our journey today takes us through Lewisporte for a visit to the Train Park, featuring a restored caboose, and on to Twillingate, home to the Long Point Lighthouse on Devil’s Head Cliff. There’s time to visit the lighthouse offering superb views across Notre Dame Bay and the Prime Berth Twillingate Fishing Museum. This afternoon we continue south to Gander and our overnight hotel. Gander is a town based around a rich aviation history and in World War II it provided a major air link to Europe. We visit the North Atlantic Aviation Museum with exhibits covering the period from 1935 to 2001, highlighting Gander’s role in the development of Trans-Atlantic aviation.

Day 11 - Terra Nova National Park - Clarenville
Our journey this morning takes us through the Terra Nova National Park before the route continues to Bonavista where John Cabot is reputed to have landed in 1497 and where he first saw the ‘New found land’. Discover Bonavista’s lighthouse which dates from 1843 and has been restored, securing its status as a provincial historic site. We then join the ‘Discovery Trail’ and visit historic Trinity, a fascinating village with the many small buildings along its narrow streets having been restored and renovated. Our journey of scenic delights continues to Clarenville and our overnight hotel.
